Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Large and growing global manufacturer of material handling equipment is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to help manage our team!  The Engineering Manager will develop, direct, supervise and coordinate a staff knowledgeable in manufacturing processes to minimize product cost and maximize manufacturing efficiency. Work with various functional areas within the plant. This position reports to the Plant Manager.  Incumbents reporting to this position may include:  Manufacturing Engineers, Programmers, Process Technicians, Cost Estimators, Engineering Technicians, Tool Designers, and Equipment Maintenance Technicians. 

Job Responsibilities

40% - Department Management of Manufacturing Engineering 
  • Communicate and work closely with Advanced Mfg./Eng, Plant Management, Materials Manager, Quality Manager, Design Engineering, and Safety on projects and assignments. 
  • Provide estimates of manufacturing costs for new products, equipment, tooling and processes. 
  • Assign personnel to advise and evaluate processes for effects on cost, quality, throughput and capacity. 
  • Develop, direct and/or evaluate capital equipment purchase proposals. 
  • Manage/lead tool engineering functions including design and build where applicable.

30% - Project Management - Ability to lead project types that include:
  • Maintaining current manufacturing processes
  • Grow and improve process capacity and capabilities within the plant
  • Maintain continuous improvement projects 
  • Develop capital appropriation projects

20% - Administration/Employee Development 
  • Responsible for coaching, motivating, mentoring, and developing direct reports to successfully take on additional responsibilities.
  • Conduct Talent Development/Individual Development sessions.
  • Assist in the hiring, placing, transferring and promoting of employees.
  • Process and approve employee paperwork to include vacations, personal leave, accident reports, return-to-work forms/information, and employees’ questions. 
  • Perform duties such as creating/revising job descriptions and completing annual wage reviews.

10% - Personal Development 
  • Monitor new developments in manufacturing/process technology, design for manufacturability methods, cost estimation and control, etc. by attending seminars, benchmarking, research, etc.

  • 10-15+ years of experience including 5+ years of Engineering department management experience
  • AS Engineering Degree, BS degree preferred
  • Manufacturing Engineering experience in Assembly, weld, fabrication, stamping or machining
  • Knowledge of SPC, Lean and Six Sigma
  • Strong leadership, good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to think out of the box and move the organization forward with minimal supervision
