Industry leading manufacturer across North America is seeking an experienced Process Engineer. This is a high-visibility position located near the company HQ in the Greater Raleigh/Durham area.
 
Purpose/Goals

The Process Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of a new manufacturing process to produce composite materials. Facilitates the manufacture of all products through continuous process improvement. Implements new processes to accommodate new part introduction or increased sales. Reduces material waste, improves quality, increases output and decreases downtime to improve profitability. Ensures compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations associated with OSHA and environmental regulations.
 
Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as lead Project Engineer to ensure plans for new manufacturing equipment and associated processes are executed on time and operate within the designated capital budget constraints.
  • Oversee the installation of new manufacturing equipment and work closely with equipment suppliers, local utilities, construction / installation teams and R&D to successfully transition production to full utilization.
  • Provide advance level of design engineering pertaining to new product development that would include evolution of design modifications resulting from FMEA of the current products / processes.
  • Develop measurement systems required to measure facilities metrics or key process indicators.
  • Identify and analyze manufacturing problems to control and improve manufacturing.
  • Initiate, manage & participate in safety, quality, cost & process control improvement projects.
  • Participates in the "team" process development concept.
  • Designs and/or sources equipment for manufacturing processes.
  • Manages capital budget projects as assigned.
  • Assists R & D effort to implement new products or process into production.
  • Develops all necessary process and audit documentation (i.e. FMEAs Control Plans, Capability Studies, Balanced Line Capacity Models, Flow Analysis, etc.).
  • Assesses existing processes for areas of improvement utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts (Kaizen, TPM, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) Six Sigma, designed experiment techniques, capability studies, etc.
  • Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with Quality Assurance, to monitor and document quality standards.
  • Leads, where applicable, or works in conjunction with plant maintenance to ensure that the facility and equipment are maintained and updated consistent with short and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Provides training, as required, to associates.
 
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Technology/Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Eight or more years’ experience in process/manufacturing engineering.
  • Specific technical knowledge of composite materials manufacturing processes is required; familiarity with polymer extrusion, polymer concrete, cementitious material and compression molding is desired.
  • Safety and quality minded.
  • Organized and detail oriented. Self-motivated and team oriented.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications required.
  • Minimal travel required.
