Market leader in niche metals sector is seeking a motivated Plant Process Metallurgist to join an exciting team looking to make new things happen!  Use your process engineering and metals experience as a growing company seeks to expand into new territories.

The Plant Metallurgist is accountable for the application of metallurgical principles to the production practices, process and quality control system, product and process improvement programs, and laboratory functions.  The role will also play a part in generating additional revenue streams through new alloy and product/process development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work within the Quality System to assure the cost-effective production of high quality products.
  • Assist in the establishment of product/process specifications of material manufactured in the Primary/Industrial Departments.
  • Plan, implement, and oversee top priority opportunities/products in response to market analysis -- especially focused on alloy development, covering research and development through launch; evaluate results and report back to management.
  • Ensure that the necessary equipment, materials, manpower, and outside services are in place to allow for completion of new product development.
  • Work with internal groups to determine existing process capabilities and identify areas of improvement that will improve efficiency and eventually lead to improved profit margin; evaluate new processes or new equipment that will provide enhanced process capability where required to meet market demand.
  • Provide all needed metallurgical services and work using both internal and external resources to other departments and customers as needed.
  • Develop and evaluate the engineering and manufacturing process to estimate production costs and methods to determine commercial viability of products.
  • Maintain and encourage safe work practices throughout the organization.

Education, Experience, Skills, and Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience in metals field; alloy development experience in a continuous strip casting environment preferred.
  • Experience with manufacturing operations such as casting, rolling, slitting, forming, and/or stamping.
  • Experience in LEAN manufacturing and using statistical process control, DOE, and process capability index.
  • Good written and oral communication skills with all levels of organization.
  • Good interpersonal and management skills including the ability to lead by example, function within a team, and to direct and influence others in a positive fashion.
  • Expert computer skills, to include spreadsheets, word processing, web-based searches, and presentation software.
