The Senior Estimator is responsible for managing the estimating process for assigned projects or for portions of a project requiring special expertise.  He/She is accountable for the quality of the work prepared under their direction.  The Senior Estimator must make every effort to satisfy the needs of the client with respect to each estimate/bid.  They must develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.  The Senior Estimator may assign duties and responsibilities to estimators working on specific projects.  The Senior Estimator is accountable for the estimators and the procedures used in preparing an estimate/bid and is also responsible for assistance in the development of estimators and procedures used in the estimating process.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Effectively serve as the peer of the Operational Project Manager.
  • Perform complex take-off.
  • Responsible for final pricing.
  • Responsible for complex projects and routinely will function as the Estimating Team Leader.
  • Maintain and manage well developed subcontractor/supplier relationships.
  • Assist as needed in client presentations.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training of estimators assigned to projects with Senior Estimator serving as Estimating Team Leader.
  • Responsible for buy-out.
  • Participate in "go/no go" decisions.
  • Assist in the development of "win" strategy.
  • Supervise estimators as assigned and work with the Estimating Director with management and development of estimators.
  • Model and reinforce safety as a top priority of the organization.  Always wears a hard hat and other appropriate personal protective equipment in the field.
  • Practice the AQM philosophy of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure client satisfaction, both internally and externally, through positive, pleasant, professional, and efficient handling of issues.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related technical field.
  • 5 plus years of related experience in steel fabrication; such as commercial structural steel, beam and column, etc.
  • Minimum of 1 year of field experience.
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication processes and techniques such as welding and possess advanced knowledge of construction elements.
  • Highly proficient in estimating tools/processes.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of all construction elements.
  • Highly effective with negotiations.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Strong presentation skills in order to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations to clients.
  • Efficient comprehension and application of principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual or practical problems.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

AIA, AIC, ASPE, CPC, EIT or other relevant certifications are highly encouraged.  Ten (10) CEU’s required annually.
